Putting the Science Back into Forensic Science: Progress Report

The annual report from the Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC), issued August 29, 2018, documents the remarkable progress that NIST’s sponsored OSAC program has made in science-based regulation since its inception less than four years ago. The report documents many of the accomplishments, as well as the long trail ahead.

During the reporting period, the 800 OSAC members continued the development of more than 200 draft standards across 25 forensic disciplines. These will provide a strong foundation to build integrity for forensics.

OSAC is a work in progress. I encourage chemists to download the free 25-page report. I think it is something to be proud of, especilly when so much of the news seems to be antiscience.
