Glass Expansion Product Brochure Video - Nebulizer

The ICP nebulizer is a critical component of your sample introduction system, so why not opt for the highest quality. Glass Expansion has been manufacturing ICP nebulizers since the early 1980s and is well known for their unique VitriCone™ sample channel construction. The VitriCone sample channel is created by machining constant bore heavy stock glass tubing to create an aerodynamic exterior while maintaining a consistent internal diameter.

The benefits of the VitriCone construction are…

  • Sample channel is guaranteed uniform and more resistant to clogging
  • Rugged precision-machined capillary resists vibration and delivers the best possible precision
  • Industry’s tightest manufacturing tolerances ensure each nebulizer will perform to the same high standards as the previous one

With other brands of glass concentric nebulizers, the sample channel is constructed from drawn out capillary tubing. The problems with this type of construction are:

  • The tube is tapered, encouraging salt deposition as the tube narrows
  • The tubing is very fragile and easily broken
  • The tubing can vibrate under the influence of the high speed argon flow, leading to poor precision
  • It is very difficult to reproduce the same performance with different nebulizers

Glass Expansion is also continuously updating nebulizer designs to improve performance and ease of use. In 2009, Glass Expansion released the U-Series nebulizer line, featuring the proprietary UniFit connector that slides over the sample arm of the nebulizer creating an excellent seal and zero-dead volume connection. With the U-Series you now have a continuous VitriCone capillary from sample introduction to the nozzle for the fastest possible washout and throughput.

In 2011 Glass Expansion’s popular inert nebulizers, the OpalMist and PolyCon, were redesigned to accommodate the same zero-dead volume UniFit connector as the concentric glass nebulizer line. The redesigned OpalMist and PolyCon also added a more user-friendly, ratchet style removable gas line.

Furthermore in 2011, Glass Expansion introduced a new inert nebulizer option, the DuraMist. The DuraMist nebulizer is a concentric style nebulizer manufactured from PEEK, with tolerance of up to 5% Hydrofluoric Acid and 30% total dissolved solids. The strength and rigidity of the PEEK material allow the DuraMist to be manufactured to very tight tolerances, closely matching the performance of Glass Expansion’s worldwide popular, SeaSpray nebulizer.

Most recently, Glass Expansion introduced the Direct Connection (DC) gas line to their nebulizer line up. Now all Glass Expansion nebulizers can be supplied with a metal-free ratchet style gas connection to the nebulizer and a direct connection to the ICP nebulizer gas port.

The benefits of the DC nebulizer are…

  • Inert metal-free argon connector
  • Reliable ratchet fitting ensures leak-free gas connection
  • Simple installation with an ICP-specific Direct Connect flexible argon line

Selecting a proper nebulizer can have a profound effect on nebulizer performance and lifetime. You should consider a number of characteristics when choosing a nebulizer...

  • Tolerance to total dissolved solids
  • Tolerance to particulates
  • Tolerance to Hydrofluoric acid
  • Precision
  • Purity
  • Robustness
  • Material

For this reason Glass Expansion has developed several different concentric style nebulizers, each designed for specific performance requirements and sample types. Whether your ICP laboratory is analyzing clean aqueous samples, samples containing HF and/or high dissolved salts, or volatile organic solvents; Glass Expansion has a nebulizer to suit your needs.
