Why Forensic Laboratories Need to Upgrade Their Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Analysis

Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) analysis is a common forensic test used to define the level of intoxication in an individual arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). Despite being a routinely performed test, BAC analysis endures limitations such as carryover from previous injections, false positives and instrument inconsistencies, compromising the accuracy of results. Here, we discuss why forensic laboratories need to update their workflows and how recent advances in headspace sampling technology enable fast, accurate and high-throughput routine BAC analysis.
