Time of Flight Mass Spectrometer (TOF MS)

Time-of-flight mass spectrometers (TOF MS) do exactly what their name suggests: determine an ion’s mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) based on how long it takes for that ion to travel down the instrument’s “flight tube” and reach the detector. Frequently, though not exclusively coupled to matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) sources, TOF MS come in a variety of configurations, including a single-stage time-of-flight mass spectrometer, a multi-stage TOF/TOF, and even a hybrid quadrupole-TOF (Q-TOF) instrument; the latter two enable MS/MS applications. Often, time-of-flight mass spectrometers contain two detectors: a linear detector at the end of the flight tube, and a “reflector” detector, which captures ions that were redirected back towards the source by a “reflectron.” The reflectron serves two purposes: correcting for discrepancies in initial kinetic energy of identically sized molecules (which would cause them to reach the detector at different times and thus, have different apparent m/z values) and lengthening the flight path, improving resolution.

Unique and powerful software and hardware features simplify quantitation, while also identifying more components with dramatically increased sensitivity. The StayClean™ ion source eliminates the need for source cleaning, while a convenient benchtop package saves valuable space in the laboratory. The Pegasus BT will give users more uptime, and improved, richer chemical data, yielding an increase in overall laboratory productivity and efficiency.

Features:
  • Industry-leading sensitivity helps you find and quantify an unlimited number of analytes, while working with patented deconvolution algorithms to yield clean, high-quality spectra.
  • Complete historical record of mass spectral components for each sample is retained for future data mining.
  • The tried-and-tested reliability and durability of our Pegasus brand in a convenient benchtop unit.
  • ChromaTOF® brand software package works seamlessly with your Pegasus BT to efficiently process your data and remove the guesswork involved with analyte identification, quantitation, and reporting.
The Pegasus BT 4D offers enhanced sensitivity by coupling our benchtop Pegasus BT with a high performance GCxGC modulation system. This combination gives the Pegasus BT 4D the ability to interrogate challenging samples where the best sensitivity is needed. Unique and powerful software and hardware features simplify quantitation, while also dramatically making GCxGC easy-to-use and understand.

Our traditional thermal modulation system provides the highest sensitivity available on the market for those analyzing the most complex samples.

Our new FLUX™ flow modulation system is an excellent option for those looking for added capability over one dimensional GC.

Features:
  • ChromaTOF®, LECO's exclusive software designed for advance chromatography, works seamlessly with the new Pegasus BT 4D to automatically process user data and remove the guesswork involved with analyte identification and quantification. Features such as NonTarget Deconvolution®, Target Analyte Find, library searches, and an easy-to-configure interface, all come together to give users a better GCxGC experience.
  • Do you know what's missing in your sample? The Pegasus BT 4D makes is easy to perform a Non-Targeted analysis for complex samples.
  • Clearly identify analytes in your sample with the unmatched sensitivity of the GCxGC modulation process.
  • Our open-style StayClean® EI source virtually eliminates downtime associated with source cleaning, which means more time running samples and less time cleaning your source
Developed to withstand the rigor of modern analytical demands, the Pegasus GC-HRT provides high-performance MS capabilities, including acquisition speed, mass accuracy, superior relative isotopic abundance, mass resolution, and dynamic range, all available simultaneously—No Compromises.

Features
  • KADAS® (Kinetic Algorithmic Data Acquisition System) used to provide high-value, high-integrity output under the most demanding acquisition conditions available
  • Three modes of operation (Nominal, High Resolution, and Ultra-High Resolution) providing resolution of up to 50,000 FWHM
  • ChromaTOF® software utilizes True Signal Deconvolution® for accurate peak identification
Combining GCxGC and TOFMS with High Resolution Deconvolution™ (HRD™), users are able to find more analytes than ever before and identify components with ultimate confidence.
