Traditional methodologies for analysis of Total Acid Number (TAN) in petroleum products, such as ASTM D664, are not optimal for crude oil, waxy petroleum feed stocks, and other refinery fractions. Crude oil is often thick or coats the measuring surfaces of potentiometric electrodes which leads to noisy signal and longer titrations. Metrohm Thermometric TAN Analyzers improve TAN analysis by using a sensor that is unaffected by solvent or difficult samples.
