Reciprocating Seals for HPLC, SFC

In HPLC and UHPLC systems, a leaking seal can lead to catastrophic failure, contamination, and system breakdown. Bal Seal^® reciprocating flange seals for HPLC and UHPLC equipment are custom-engineered and precision manufactured to fit around the pump piston and prevent seepage of eluent. The seals provide effective sealing in a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and media types, strong resistance to abrasion, and increased service life in mobile phases, especially when buffer salts are present.

Suitable for pressures at 6,000 psi and above, the Bal Seal^® reciprocating flange seal with a PEEK backup ring combines proven Bal Spring^™ canted coil spring energizer technology and advanced polymer formulation ideal for supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) with CO₂. Tested to over 1 million cycles, the seal is designed to handle temperatures below 5 °C. Unlike elastomeric gaskets and O-rings that may dissolve in CO₂media, the reciprocating seal is engineered to operate effectively at both the low and the high pressures inherent in SFC as the media changes from liquid to gas to vapor to supercritical fluid.
