Accomplishing advances in patient care while controlling cost is an increasingly critical challenge faced by most healthcare providers and delivery systems. This session will provide an introduction to lab and health economics in the context of digital IFA automation in autoimmune diagnostics testing. It will also address the role of new diagnostic assays and automation of indirect fluorescence assay (IFA) testing to improve care while reducing overall costs.
Marvin Fritzler, PhD, MD – Dr. Fritzler is currently Professor of Medicine at the University of Calgary where his clinical activity is devoted to clinical immunology and directing autoantibody testing through the Mitogen Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory. Dr. Fritzler will provide an introduction to health economics and address the role of new diagnostic assays in improving patient care.
Laurel Tria, MS Laboratory Science – Ms. Tria is currently Technical Director, Automated Laboratory, North Shore LIJ Laboratories where she directs clinical laboratory automation processes and technology. Ms. Tria will provide her insight and experience in lab economics, moving from manual IFA to an automated digital IFA system, and present data that compare the different methods as well as associated economic benefits.
