American Laboratory: Connecting the Dots for 49 Years

For 49 years, American Laboratory has served chemists and life scientists in their labs by communicating advances in products to corresponding utilitarian advances in applications. To commemorate our 50th anniversary in October 2018, we have been reminiscing on the huge advances made in metrology and automation that enable our society today. Over the course of the year, we will feature reports chronicling the development of instruments like chromatographs, thermocyclers, and mass spectrometers, and connect the dots to applications such as forensics, fuels, foods, healthcare, life science research, chemicals, polymers, and more.

Let’s begin with the vision of our founder, Mr. William Wham:

I hope you enjoy the upcoming case histories. However, history also teaches that the rate of change will be faster in the future. What will the lab be like in 50 years? Interesting to contemplate.

With a smile,
Bob
