The image on the cover of the American Laboratory April 2013 issue shows bread mold (green fungus). The sample was air dried and then coated with platinum using an Emitech 550× (Quorum Technologies, East Sussex, U.K.). Imaging was performed with an Inspect™ F50 scanning electron microscope (FEI, Eindhoven, The Netherlands) at 2.0 kV/spot 3.0/working distance 15.3 mm, using a secondary electron detector.
