Skin transplants Save Lives — Human Skin Cell Cultures are Incubated in BINDER Incubators for Clinical Use

Abstract

The Biotechnology division of the German Institute for Cell and Tissue Replacement (DIZG) has been at the frontlines of tissue culturing of autologous skin since 1995. These skin transplants save the lives of burn patients. The institute uses specialized BINDER CB150 series incubators to culture skin tissue from cells: small cell isolates can be grown to “sheets” of 0.5 to 1.5 m2 within just a few weeks at strict conditions. The BINDER CB150 series excels in this application, as it reduces the risk of contamination with integrated sterilization capabilities that ensure tissue efficacy and, ultimately, transplantability to patients.
