Point-of-Care Tests for Anemia

The presence of anemia, which is the insufficient oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, can be determined by the total hemoglobin concentration. This lab test is the most commonly ordered in hospital settings and physicians’ offices. Many point-of-care tests and devices are commercially available that provide rapid assessment of hemoglobin levels. In addition, new noninvasive testing systems are being offered.
