Hematology analysis comprises three primary physical technologies, i.e., flow cytometry, fluorescent flow cytometry, and electrical impedance. Each methodology is employed with chemical reagents that either lyse blood cells or alter blood cells such that the parameters to be measured are expanded. Selection criteria for hematology analyzers include sample size and microsampling, range of tests available, automation, time per analysis, and open- or closed-tube sampling.
