Ultracentrifuges are available in floor or benchtop models and can be used for preparative or analytical centrifugation. The type of ultracentrifuge you select is dependent on the application for which it will be used and the information you are looking for. Useful considerations include rotor type, i.e., swinging bucket or fixed-angle, vertical or near-to-vertical, or zonal; size and number of samples, and size of vessel that will be used to house the sample; and RCF, or relative centrifugal force that will be required.
